There are many ways to find dates. You can ask out that hot person at work or the store, or use an app or a dating site. You can also go the traditional route by meeting people at bars. If you’re a young guy, or an older guy who’s gotten it wrong in the past, then you need some dating advice on how to talk to a woman at a bar.

Be Friendly But Not Creepy

It’s expected that people will talk to each other at the bar. Don’t open with one of those stupid lines you see on TV or in film. Remain friendly, but open to conversation. Don’t stare at her chest, raise your eyes up to her face. Never touch a stranger, unless they invite you onto the dance floor and are okay with being touched for a close dance.

Don’t Act Like You Want Something

Women aren’t things that you win or buy. Don’t act like you want something. Nothing will send them away faster. Put a smile on your face and have a lackadaisical attitude. You’re just here to have a drink or snack, or hang out with the guys. Ask her some personal questions, but don’t get too personal. For instance, instead of asking where she lives, ask if she lives in the city where the bar is.

Don’t Make Assumptions

Gone are the days that we can assume women are nurses, teachers, or secretaries. Chances are that her education is more extensive than yours, and that she can outperform you under the hood (car hood). Simply ask what she does for a living.

Don’t Comment on Appearance

It’s considered rude to comment on appearance, particularly if it’s on their weight or their scars. If you want to say something nice, then say how they have a nice smile, or, ask them where they got their t-shirt from. Don’t tell them how you like girls who go for a natural look, or how you don’t like makeup. Chances are they are wearing makeup and spent a long time putting it on for a “natural” look. These are topics you know nothing about.

If she asks what types of girls you’re looking for, say you’re looking for smart and funny girls. It takes more than appearance to make someone attractive anyway.

Give Her Your Number/Email

If you want to meet again, let her know there is a possibility. Don’t be pushy and demand a date on the spot. Simply give her your card with either a telephone number or an email address on it. Leave it up to her. If she likes you, then she may just contact you the next day.

The dating rules are much different than they were last century. Don’t pick up dating advice from watching TV shows or movies. Your best chance for success is to be friendly, smile often, and always be respectful. The rest of the details will naturally fall into place.
