The number of interracial marriages in America has shot up from a measly 5% in the 90s to now that over 20% of all new marriages in America being interracial marriages. This reflects the increasing approvals mixed dating get, the changes in attitudes towards couples of mixed races and the declining social barriers between different racial groups.

Couples in interracial unions now enjoy as many liberties as any other couples without the staring that they were often subjected to.

The society is evolving to open up and embrace other cultures. When cupid’s arrow strikes, considerations for the color of the skin are thrown out of the window for love knows no barriers; it does not discriminate. There was a time when courtships when courtships mixed dating occurred secretly because the couple was afraid of the public ridicule, ostracism by their families and the wider community. If they eventually got married, the lack of social support and pressure from the society would lead to divorce or be banished forever. The disinheriting and disowning are all things of the past now.

The hostility from friends, family, relatives and the society at large when someone gets an interracial match is gone now. Races are blending and mixing without being encumbered with the barriers and yokes of the past. Black women now marry white men freely without the cloud that they marry white men for economic reasons hanging over their heads.

The number of African-American men marrying white is growing steadily by the day. Most of these unions are successful when both parties have a mutual attraction for each other, respect both cultures and go out of their way to understand and even blend in the cultures of their partners. Most African- American families readily accept marriages between their kin and someone from the white community. The white community is also becoming increasingly appreciative of mixed marriages between them and Blacks and Asians.

Many families in which a member chooses to date and marry someone from another race now happily accept these unions and welcome them with open arms. The two cultures integrate and interact freely, often pleasantly surprised to find that there is more that unites us than separates us. And that there is little difference between cultures when there is love to conquer all.

Now there is nothing to stop you from getting into a relationship with someone from a different race provided there are mutual attraction and respect, and they make you happy. After all, it takes a courageous and open-minded person to see the person the color of the skin.
