The summer rain fell on me
In a torrent that came suddenly
But I let it wash over me: I didn't care
I let it soak my clothes and through my hair
My thoughts and heart cannot be dampened down
Nor can my smile be changed to a frown
For my heartstrings strum a sweet melody,
A song of love and of you and me:

"Because of you, the man I am today
"Is more than the man I was yesterday.
"And thanks to you, I have come to know
"Love is about holding on and letting go
"About learning to cherish and to forgive
"About discovering what it really means to live
"And all this exploration
"All this passion and jubilation
"All the opening of life's doors
"Is because you are mine and I am yours."

Let the summer rain follow me everywhere
I still don't mind, why should I care?
My thoughts and feelings don't sit inside
Wherever you are, they're by your side
You are my teacher in love, my heart says
And my heartstrings' melody still plays,
A song of love lasting for eternity
And once more the refrain occurs to me:

"I have seen and come to know
"Love is about holding on and letting go
"About being tender and forgiving
"About learning what makes life worth living
"About knowing what is most sure and true
"Is the love I will always bear for you
"And that this true love's melody
"Will always be playing for you and me
"And we will find we can open every door
"Because you are mine and I am yours."
